Netflix has added a new feature to its streaming platform that will help them provide better recommendations to its users. The new ‘Two Thumbs Up’ has begun rolling out to all Netflix subscribers worldwide. Previously, the streaming service introduced Like and Dislike options, replacing the star-based rating system.
The new feature will be added to the existing Thumbs Up and Thumbs Down controls, which help Netflix determine what to show individual subscribers. However, Two Thumbs Up will allow users to indicate how much they enjoyed something, and the company claims that it has been a highly requested feature within the experience.
Users Now Have Greater Control Over Title Feedback on Netflix
Netflix’s numerous new additions to improve the user experience has significantly improved user recommendations. The Netflix algorithm pushes content on the streaming platform based on the user’s viewing habits and ratings. The addition of a new button to like and love the content that the user has watched will lead to further advancements in content recommendation based on the user’s preferences.
Netflix describes the Two Thumbs Up option as “a way to fine-tune your recommendations”. The Love It option with two thumbs up will elevate the content much more on the Netflix algorithm, assisting in recommending more of the same to users.
“We’ve heard from members that there’s a difference between something they liked — and something that they loved,” said Christine Doig-Cardet, director of product innovation at Netflix. “We’re giving them more control and agency over what is being shown to them,” she added. Users can find the two thumbs love it option; right below the like it button on the details page of a title. Furthermore, the feature has begun to roll out and is now available for TV, Web, Android, and iOS mobile devices.
