Update: The brand said the following to India Today: “We have been constantly monitoring the development on Realme India Twitter support account. We are also investigating the matter internally and will apprise you once we receive more information.”
World Password Day takes place on the first Thursday in May every year, to promote good password usage habits. Our digital identities rely on passwords to allow us access to things like online shopping, dating, banking, social media, private work, and private life communications. Yesterday, that is, May 6 was celebrated as World Password Day 2021. That said, Realme, a Chinese smartphone and AIoT products manufacturing brand’s Twitter account was compromised for a short span of time.
The hackers, or the group of people who took over the account, managed to change the profile name to Tesla and begun commenting about cryptocurrency scams under Elon Musk’s tweets. However, they did not change the username of the account which still remains the same @realmecareIN.
This could be a group of hackers trying to gain control and showing us the importance of strong passwords on the occasion of World Password Day, else it could be a scam similar to what occurred earlier with larger accounts. That said, the account appears to have been retrieved by the company back now.
Secure passwords are critical in a cyber world. Apart from keeping your information offline, long, unique, and complex passwords are the best way to protect your sensitive information. It’s a good idea to change your passwords every few months or whenever you suspect your accounts have been compromised.
Here’s How to Keep your Account Secure:
- Change your old password to a long, strong one.
- Turn on Two-Factor Authentication.
- Password protect your wireless router.
- Log out when you’re done with a program.
- Periodically remove temporary internet files.
That said, do you have two-factor authorization turned on? Do let us know by dropping a comment down below.
